Description:
The Zamboanga City Medical Center started as a General Hospital on September 01, 1918. It started out as a single pavilion with the primary goal of providing health education and treatment for communicable diseases. However in time, it expanded its services to include surgical, obstetrics and ancillary services like x-rays and minor laboratory services.
The return to normalcy after World War II in 1948, saw the hospital in ruins. Restoration was realized through the help given by the local community, the government and foreign assistance.
In 1962, the hospital was designated as the training hospital for Region 7. Thereafter it was renamed as Zamboanga Regional Training Hospital for Region IX.
On March 24, 1992, Pres. Corazon C. Aquino signed into law the Republic Act No. 7270 converting Zamboanga Regional Training Hospital into the Zamboanga City Medical Center, upgrading it from 200 to 250 bed capacity hospital. However, despite its conversion, its infrastructure and equipment capability did not meet the demands if an ever-increasing population of the city and the region as a whole.
The Zamboanga City Medical Center has four major divisions, namely: Administrative, Financial, Nursing, and Medical. The various clinical services fall under the Medical and Nursing divisions, while the training, research, and education falls under the special office: Human Resource Development (HRD).
