International Medical Center (IMC)
The concept for the International Medical Center (IMC) started in the early 1990s with the vision of Sheikh Ahmed Hasan Fitaihi, the CEO and Chairman of the Fitaihi Company, who saw the need, the value, the importance, and the blessings in building a hospital. Sheikh Ahmed Fitaihi initiated and continued to support the project until the incorporation of the company. At the same time his son, Dr. Walid Fitaihi, was completing medical school at George Washington University in the United States and starting his internship and residency at Harvard Medical School. During the time that Dr. Fitaihi was doing his fellowship at Harvard Medical School and completing his Masters Degree in Health Policy and Management, he supervised the first marketing and financial studies of the International Medical Center. Soon a contract was signed with a team of architects from both Boston and Saudi Arabia. At that time Dr. Wael Kaawach joined the IMC project. Both Dr. Fitaihi and Dr. Kaawach were practicing physicians and clinical instructors at Harvard Medical School in Boston at the time, they were able to further develop the mission and vision of the IMC as well as overseeing the completion of the design of the hospital, signing with Joint Commission International, and achieving a partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In the mid-1990s architectural designing commenced as well as the establishment of a partnership between the IMC and The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. During the late 1990s, the IMC operated as a small start-up office, working in collaboration with some of the best architectural, design, and contracting firms in the United States. Advisors and consultants from varied areas joined in the take-off operations. Upon the completion of architectural and design plans , in 2002, business operations moved from Boston to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and several more individuals joined the management team. The IMC team grew and operations continued. The momentous occasion of ground-breaking for the IMC took place in Jeddah in January of 2003. With the presence of the Chairman and CEO of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Dr. Floyd Loop, the ceremony was all the more celebratory. IMC now stand on the cusp of a new and exciting era. As we are witnessing all their dreams and hard work converted to reality, they take pride in all what they promised in terms of providing a unique and comprehensive service to those in need.
