Englewood Hospital was incorporated in 1888 as a non-profit, non-sectarian voluntary health care facility devoted to "the care, maintenance and cure of the sick, the injured and the infirm." It officially opened its doors on June 14, 1890 in a 12 bed wooden building on a three acre tract of land on Engle Street.

Now in its second century of service, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has evolved into a major medical and academic institution, providing "world class medicine in a community setting."

Providing primary, secondary and tertiary care, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is an acute care, community teaching hospital. It is the first New Jersey affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is a member of the Mount Sinai Health System.

Through its affiliation with Mount Sinai School of Medicine, residents in surgery, pediatrics, podiatry and pathology, as well as critical care medicine fellows, rotate through Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. The institution also maintains a free-standing residency program in medicine and a fellowship in vascular surgery.

The Medical Center holds Magnet Status awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) of the American Nurses Association. This designation signifies national acknowledgement of highest nursing standards. Englewood is one of only 50 hospitals in the US to achieve Magnet status.

As a leader in innovative services, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center offer a broad range of state-of-the-art clinical programs. These include The Breast Care Center, a leader in fine-needle aspiration biopsies and the only comprehensive breast care center in Northern New Jersey. A federal grant was awarded to the Center as a national model for the diagnosis and management of breast cancer. The High Risk Cancer Assessment program offers Genetic Counseling to patients concerned with their family history.

The Heart and Vascular Institute of New Jersey brings together in one location nationally recognized experts in the specialties of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology. Through this multidisciplinary approach, the Institute is able to treat the patient as a whole person resulting in a superior level of care.

The Vascular Center at the Medical Center includes dedicated, comprehensive care centers and laboratories including Limb Salvage Center, Endovascular Center, Vascular Laboratory, Vein and Lymphedema Center, Wound Care Center and Surgical Research Laboratory. The Vascular Institute is a major teaching site training surgical residents and fellows from other major medical institutions.

The Medical Center is a pioneer in the diagnosis and treatment of stroke. It is involved in clinical drug trials and was chosen to test a new drug for acute stroke.

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center's modernized Family Birth Place offers patients the most comprehensive range of services including The Englewood-Mount Sinai Obstetrical Genetics Center; Maternal-Fetal Medicine and a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery.
