AFP Medical Center

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center is the official hospital institution of the AFP that is aimed to provide quality tertiary health care services to AFP personnel, dependents and authorized civilians. It was originally named the V. Luna General Hospital, after Colonel Victoriano Luna, the Chief of Medical Service and Medical Adviser of the Chief of Staff during the battle of Bataan. The AFP hospital was founded in 1937 as the Philippine Army General Hospital in Camp Murphy with a 60 bed capacity. The original site of the hospital is now occupied by the Medical Dispensary at Camp Aguinaldo. It was later expanded to accommodate 250 beds then to 500 beds in 1941. With the Japanese invasion, the general hospital was established in a base camp in Mariveles using make shift building and tents. The hospital ceased to exist during the death march.

After the liberation of America in 1945, the hospital was transferred High 54 Shaw Boulevard Mandaluyung, Rizal and was gradually revived through the help of the U.S. Army Medical Depot while surgeons and nurses were sent abroad for further training. In 1946, the hospital had a bed capacity of more than 2500 beds and had been reputed to manufacture artificial prosthesis for amputees during the war. It was renamed Victoriano Luna General Hospital on 1946.Four years later, the hospital was transferred to its current site along a 16 hectare lot in Kamias Road, Quezon City. It was later renamed Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Center (AFPMC) in 1975.

The AFP Medical center provides all health services for AFP personnel and their dependents. Services included Ancillary Services, Medical Services, Nursing Services, Out Patient Services and Training Programs. Its Medical Services included Medicine and other subspecialites, OB Gyne, Pediatrics and Surgery. The hospital personnel are also involved in medical missions in AFP programs and campaigns as well as search and rescue efforts during calamities.
