Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine

The Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine, or PSNbM, is a subspecialty society of the Philippine Pediatric Society that was incorporated in November 2005 through the auspices of Dr. Emilio A. Hernandez Jr., Dr. Gloria Baens-Ramirez, Dr. Aurea Dagdag-Matias, Dr. Socorro de Leon-Mendoza and Dr. Dolores Belmonte-Sy which started way back in 1996. It has finally come into fruition through the approval of Dr. Joel Elises and Dr. Estrella Paje-Villar and was formally launched on February 10, 2006 with Dr. Emilio A. Hernadez Jr., as its first president.

As it name implies, the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine is a society that focuses and specializes on New born medicine which involves the comprehensive and multidisciplinary care for critically ill newborns such as those with life-threatening medical emergencies and congenital malformations. The society is primarily composed of board-certified neonatologist and experts that are strong dedicated to establish, promote and deliver a gamut of care of the highest quality for all newborn infants in order to ensure their optimal growth and development to become productive and fulfilled human beings.

As the premier leader and staunch advocate of comprehensive neonatal care, the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine is designed to formulate policies, clinical guidelines, strategies and programs that will advance neonatal care; establish, uphold and advance standards of all training and development programs on neonatal care; facilitate and integrate neonatal research including epidemiologic studies for immediate implementation and in the formulation of policies and practice guidelines; collaborate and coordinate with national and international agencies in campaigns and other activities that will promote neonatal care, disseminate information and provide education on neonatal care especially in the identified rural areas where there is high incidence of birth defects and birth deaths; promote sympathetic and ethical practice of neonatology to all people regardless of socio economic status, ethnicity, religion, or creed and, enhance the personal and professional growth of all its members. The society aims in achieving all these goals with the help of Divine Providence and for the purpose of improving the survival of newborn infants in order to maximize their potential.

The Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine is located at Room 405 Philippine Pediatric Society Building 52 Kalayaan Ave., Brgy. Malaya, Quezon City Philippines.
