Englewood Hospital was incorporated in 1888 as a non-profit, non-sectarian voluntary health care facility devoted to “the care, maintenance and cure of the sick, the injured and the infirm.” It officially opened its doors on June 14, 1890 in a 12 bed wooden building on a three acre tract of land on Engle Street. Now in its second century of service, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center has evolved into a major medical and academic institution, providing “world class medicine in a community setting.” Providing primary, secondary and tertiary care, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is an acute care, community teaching hospital. It is the first New Jersey affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine and is a member of the Mount Sinai Health System. Through its affiliation with Mount Sinai School of Medicine, residents in surgery, pediatrics, podiatry and pathology, as well as critical care medicine fellows, rotate through Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. The institution also maintains a free-standing residency program in medicine and a fellowship in vascular surgery.
