Animal Bite Center Mandaluyong

Rabies is a viral disease in warm-blooded animals (e.g. dogs, cats, rats, and bats etc), which is transmitted to humans primarily by biting. The virus travels through the nerves to the brain, the central nervous system. The virus has an incubation period of a few months. And once it reaches the central nervous system, the disease can be fatal and incurable. Symptoms of infection included headache and fever, and violent and uncontrolled movements often associated with mental illness, hydrophobia, coma then eventual death. Rabies is therefore fatal and children are most vulnerable to it. With the prevalence of domesticated animals like dogs and cats in the homes of many Filipinos, many children are susceptible to animal bites and rabies and thus have become a public health problem. This has led to the establishment of many animal bite treatment center across the country.
