NICU Nurse Training or neonatal intensive care unit training is a type of nursing training that specializes in nursing newly born infants undergoing neonatal intensive care, which is often given to premature infants and other babies who are unstable because of certain circumstances or diseases such as perinatal asphyxia, major birth defects, sepsis, neonatal jaundice, and Infant respiratory distress syndrome due to immaturity of the lungs, which entail intensive care and continuous monitoring in NICU facility.

A NICU Nurse often pertains to a neonatal nurse level III, which handles newborns who needed high technology to survive, such as breathing and feeding tubes. A level IV neonatal nurse is involve in the extensive care the most vitally and composite newborns.

A neonatal nursing entails additional education that would typically entail additional two to three years of study. Aside from the basic skills of a neonatal nurse, a NICU nurse knows how to operate an incubator, the main apparatus or equipment used to manage the environmental conditions appropriate for a newborn baby. A NICU nurse knows how to facilitate oxygen supplementation, mechanical ventilation, measure temperature, respiration, cardiac function, protect infant from noise, temperature, provide nutrition using NG tube, administer medication and maintain fluid balance and air humidity among others.
