Uterine myoma or Myoma for short is a benign tumour that grows within the muscle tissue of the uterus. It can be a single dominant tissue as large a melon or as small as a coin or cluster of many fibroids. Uterine myoma is common among women childbearing age. While most women do not experience problems, large myoma can stretch the uterus, cause symptoms of bleeding and pain that may require treatment.

There are many treatment options for myoma depending on the procedure, style of type of myoma to be treated. Among the common Myoma Treatment Options included MR guided Focused Ultrasound Surgery, Hysterectomy, Uterine Artery Embolization, eatment options for uterine myoma (fibroids) such as hormone therapy, oral therapies, herbal treatments, homeopathic & holistic treatments. The term Myoma Surgery commonly refers to Myomectomy, a surgical procedure in which fibroids are removed from the uterus wall. This can be performed in various surgical methods depending on the size, number and location of the fibroids. The three common methods for myoma surgery are Hysteroscopy which is used when fibroids are located on the inner wall of the uterus; Laparoscopy when fibroids are small and are located outside the uterus and Laparotomy, which is used when Fibroids are large and have grown deep into the wall of the uterus.

Before undergoing Myomectomy, a patient is often required to undergo a hormone treatment to reduce the size of the fibroids. Whereas a hysteroscopy and Laparoscopy is an outpatient procedure, a Laparotomy might require patient to at most 4 days confinement and recovery at the hospital. After the surgery, problem of infertility and chances of pregnancy are usually improved.

Myoma Surgery is available in most leading hospitals in the Philippines such as the Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, The Medical City, Manila Doctors Hospital, and St. Luke’s Medical Center. The cost of the surgery particularly of a Laparotomy would range from 100,000 upwards in a private hospital and below 100,000 to a public hospital.
