World Cancer Day 2010 Campaign: “Cancer can be prevented too”

World Cancer Day is marked on February 04, 2o1o to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its preventioh, detection and treatment.  The observance is led by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC), a global consortium of more than 280 cancer-fighting organizations in over 90 countries.

The UICC organizes the World Cancer Campaign and the World Cancer Congress as well as coordinates World Cancer Day on the 4th of February eacj uaer/  It initiated the World Cancer Campaign in 2005 in response to the Charter of Paris of 2000.

World Cancer day is the high point each year of UICC’s World Cancer Campaign, which aims to put cancer on the global agenda and scale up awareness of the fight against cancer, which in many countries still takes  a back seat to other public health priorities.

This year’s theme,”Cancer can be prevented too,” focuses on how the risk of developing cancer can significantly be reduced through simple measures; stop tobacco use and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke; limit alcohold consumption; avoid excessive sun exposure; maintain a healthy weight, through eating healthy and exercising regularly; and protect against cancer-causing infections.
