Nursing topnotcher says it was a test of faith, not knowledge

SAN PEDRO, Laguna—The night before the nursing licensure exam, Weanne’s prayers were for her to be “not too complacent” but still put all her trust to God, even as she was confident that she would ace the test.

She said she really made it a goal to top the nursing licensure examination, her confidence boosted by having spent almost a year reviewing for it.

“But halfway through, I really fought hard to hold back my tears,” Weanne told the Inquirer by phone on Monday.

She said she had a mental block that after the first of the two-day exam, her goal was to just at least score a passing rate.

She said she cried to her family on the phone, telling them “I’m sorry.” Her mother even had to rush to Quezon province, where she took the exam, and brought her a bible.

“As I was taking the exam, I thought God really answered my first prayer,” she said. She believed the exam was too difficult than what she had expected that all she could do was to put all her trust in God.

No. 1 among 85,000

Weanne Myrrh Razon Estrada, 21, looked back at her experience after the results came out. With a rating of 88.4, she emerged number one among the 85,000 who took the board test in December last year.

Amid all the praises, Weanne would only say, “it was not me but it was God himself who answered all those questions for me.”

She believed it was not a test of knowledge but a test of her faith.

Weanne was browsing her Facebook account on Saturday afternoon when a friend posted “Congrats, Topnotcher!”

“I felt having cramps on both my arms,” she said, shocked by the results of the exam she thought she would have flunked.

She said she called up her parents, who were on their way back home to Silang, Cavite, from a retreat in Quezon, and told them the good news.
